Adventurous Woman Profile

Jessica Watson is setting out to become the youngest person to sail solo non-stop and unassisted around the World.

Since Joshua Slocum first sailed singlehanded around the world in the late 1890’s, sailors of all nationalities and ages have been drawn to this ultimate challenge: The Everest of sailing.

Slocum’s epic tale of his voyage, “Sailing Alone Round the World”, has captivated a global audience of readers for over a hundred years.

Following on, record-breaking solo circumnavigations by heroes like Francis Chichester and Robin Knox-Johnston have captured the attention and the hearts of people all over the world.

Inspired in her turn by Kay Cottee, the first woman to sail solo non-stop unassisted around the world and by Jesse Martin, the youngest person to do so, Jessica Watson has set her sights on shattering Jesse’s record.

In the process, Jessica hopes to inspire young sailors, adventurers and everyone with a dream in their heart.

Born: 18th May 1993 on the Gold Coast, Jessica currently lives in Buderim Australia.

Attitude: Always make the best of everything, Positive, ask questions, lots of questions.

Interests other than sailing: Anything outdoors and on the water, camping, the beach, reading, cooking, weather, fencing, dingy sailing, boat design and CHOCOLATE!

Walk on The Wild Side in Alaska - Adventurous Woman, Michelle Ryan

Hiking the Last Frontier is nothing like bush walking at home – especially when it comes to animal encounters. Get up close and personal with bears were a big part of Michelle’s time in Alaska’s stunning wilderness.

Check out Michelle Ryan's fabulous story about her and Sue O's Alaska bear encounters in the latest Way2Go magazine! A great 6 page spread complete with photos (featuring our AW Kilimanjaro Tour Escort Sue O'Connor on the front cover)! You'll have to track down the mag to read the full story.

Big Congratulations Michelle.... gotta get you travel writing for Adventurous Women...well done!!!

The Art of Slumbering Under the Stars

My God, it wasn't just your run-of-the-mill gorgeous outdoor destination, it was a freaking, sparsely populated island in the Galapagos! "How could you people walk away from the sky and ensconce yourselves in walls. For chrissakes, come outside and sleep!"

Those were the thoughts that passed through my mind as I dragged my mattress off the rustic, yet sturdy, hand-cut, wooden bed frame and dragged it across the floor of the cutest little cabin I'd ever been in, and slammed it down outside on th… Continue

So I am very pleased to say that this day… Continue
