Lorelle's Book Buzz.......

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

The Alchemist is a magical story about Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any ever found. To achieve this, he must leave behind all he holds dearest to embark on an amazing adventure.

He sells his sheep to an old man who calls himself Melchizedeck, the King of Salem, who tells him a wonderful story about a man who found true happiness by fulfilling his Personal Legend. He journeys from his home in Spain to the markets of Tangiers, where he is robbed. Losing hope, he decides to walk about the city, up a hill, and finds a crystal shop. The Arab merchant says that every person's fate is written. After a year the boy decides to leave the crystal shop and fulfil his personal legend - to find his treasure.

He joins a caravan to cross the Egyptian desert, where he meets an Englishman who has searched for ten years for a true alchemist. there is an alchemist watching the caravan arrive at an oasis and Santiago decides to leave the oasis with the alchemist in pursuit of his treasure.

A simple story, but rich on experiences, observations, dreams and longing - some of the main ingredients of life itself.

A beautifully written book, it's a real page turner and hard to put down.

Adventurous Women Thailand Trip June 2009

Well this is our last day in "paradise" and it's been absolutely awesome - we have some great memories to take home with us. We've witnessed some of the best marine life in the world at Koh Tao - I've decided to go back there and do my scuba ticket...loved it!! We've tackled the roads in Bangkok in a Tuk Tuk, had the most brutal, but invigorating Thai Massages and surfed the jungles of Koh Samui above the tree line (flying fox)..........… Continue

Wind in My Wings - a book by Fran Taylor - meet Fran at the Everywoman Expo

Sue and I have had the pleasure of meeting a very inspiring woman - Fran Taylor.

Born and raised in Scotland, Fran first went to sea at age fourteen. Five years later, in 1966, she emigrated to Australia, almost inevitably by sea, but it was not until she was in her forties that seafaring became a big part of her life, this coming about through an unaccountably strong attraction to "tall ships". Meanwhile her varied working life culminated in a career as a contracts engineer after… Continue

Tips for Travelling with Kids

• Essentials for a holiday road trip include a portable DVD player, a collection of their favourite CD’s
and yours, colouring books and jigsaws, eye spy and other classic car games, healthy food and
water, frequent toilet and snack stops and lots of baby wipes in the front and back seats.

• Start small. If you haven’t travelled alone with your children before, try a short break first, even if
it’s just an overnight trip. This way you and your child can get a better idea of what to expect.

WHO WANTS TO GET INVOLVED IN A CHARITY CHALLENGE?

There are so many opportunities for us to raise money for charity and have fun whilst doing it! I would like to put forward the idea of us becoming involved in at least one charity challenge per year, in order to raise funds for something we believe in...... The challenge could be either local or overseas and anything from a 1 day to a couple of weeks!!

The Women's Adventure Club could perhaps move towards getting a group of "adventurous women" together to participate in an event and raise funds for a particular cause.

If there is something that really moves you, or a charity close to your heart, let us know by posting a 'COMMENT' on my PAGE! and I'll work towards making it happen!

cheers Sue
