Adventurous Woman Profile

Jessica Watson is setting out to become the youngest person to sail solo non-stop and unassisted around the World.

Since Joshua Slocum first sailed singlehanded around the world in the late 1890’s, sailors of all nationalities and ages have been drawn to this ultimate challenge: The Everest of sailing.

Slocum’s epic tale of his voyage, “Sailing Alone Round the World”, has captivated a global audience of readers for over a hundred years.

Following on, record-breaking solo circumnavigations by heroes like Francis Chichester and Robin Knox-Johnston have captured the attention and the hearts of people all over the world.

Inspired in her turn by Kay Cottee, the first woman to sail solo non-stop unassisted around the world and by Jesse Martin, the youngest person to do so, Jessica Watson has set her sights on shattering Jesse’s record.

In the process, Jessica hopes to inspire young sailors, adventurers and everyone with a dream in their heart.

Born: 18th May 1993 on the Gold Coast, Jessica currently lives in Buderim Australia.

Attitude: Always make the best of everything, Positive, ask questions, lots of questions.

Interests other than sailing: Anything outdoors and on the water, camping, the beach, reading, cooking, weather, fencing, dingy sailing, boat design and CHOCOLATE!

Khagendra New Life School - Our Voluntary Project in Nepal this year

I am happy to report that we were able to help out Khagendra New Life School, it's teachers and students immensely through our joint fundraising efforts. Big thanks to all those involved in either raising funds, giving school supplies/gifts, supplying paint/equipment & painting the school, teaching students about our way of life through simple activities and those who will be contributing on an ongoing basis either by supply of equipment, future voluntary work or financially sponsoring a child in need.

We were able to purchase paint and equipment to paint parts of the school. We also were able to purchase an enormous amount of music & sports equipment and provide the school with a sound system and microphone which will be used from classes 1 through to 10.

Kitulgala-Sri Lanka

Last week I went to Kitulgala. It is famous for white water rafting-which I want to do but need a few more friends to join the fun. I wanted to enjoy the scenery and birds.

Unfortunately I had chosen the wrong date for birds; or I was not early enough. The hotel I stayed at was by the river and it was so beautiful. We could sit on benches in the back yard and watch the river; at night we slept with the lullaby of the river. The hotel staff was very nice and arranged a guide to accompany me to t… Continue

London Walkabout Club 1980's

Any of you out there who backpacked in Europe in the 1980's and spent time in London, may have experienced many nights at the original London Walkabout Club in Lancaster Gate/Paddington. There is a site on Face Book under "London Walkabout Club 1980's" with loads of old photos and it really does take you down memory lane.

Kanneliya Trail

I visited the Kanneliya rain forest in southern Sri Lanka. I'd like to share the trip with those who enjoy nature walks.

The importance of Kanneliya is in its wide bio diversity, in plant life as well as animal life. Many species are endemic. It is home to some very old trees and giant creepers -one creeper covers about 5 acres. There are several water falls and streams flowing through.

To reach Kanneliya, one has to travel to Galle, the another 1-2km along the Mathara road, and turn to Udugam… Continue
